Meet Big Bird, an amazing gray hen who is now getting a whole lot of attention all because of the fact that she is responsible for laying the tiniest egg in the world. And for her amazing offspring, her owner, Harry Evans immediately applied, in her name, for an honorary spot in the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s smallest chicken egg.

The hen got her name from the famed Sesame Street character, since she’s the biggest of nine chicks Mr. Evans keeps at his farm near Bakewell, Derbyshire. For one year since she was bought, she has laid perfectly normal eggs, until one morning, after the Easter celebrations in 2012, when her owner spotted the incredible mini-egg in her nest.

Such bizarre eggs are composed of collagen protein strands and are deposited in pairs on the sea floor. After nine to twelve months, hatchlings break out and they start roaming the sea.
