These twins were literally joined at the hip. They were born on July 11, 1851 and died on October 8, 1912. Their mother had already given birth to seven other children, which were perfectly normal. They twins were sold to a showman named Joseph Pearson Smith soon after birth, but they were soon kidnapped by a rival showman. Smith traveled to Britain to find the girls and reunited them with him their mother, Monimia. He and his wife provided the twins with an education and taught them to speak five languages, dance, play music, and sing. The twins were members of the great P.T. Barnum circus, and went under the name of “The Two-Headed Nightingale”

Their parents were quite superstitious and believed that this is the work of the devil so they did not allow the infants to eat or drink water for eight days.
