1. 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is one of the most expensive cars in the world, with a lot of people paying a whole lot of money for them, but it’s the prototype that was made back in 1957 that sold for the highest price ever (as far as public auctions go).

The car was sold for $16,390,000 on August 2011 at Monterey, Calif. The car is known to collectors as the “666” Testa Rossa (Italian for “red head”), because its serial number from the Ferrari factory is 0666TR.

Surprisingly or not, the second most expensive car ever sold was another 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa… Only 19 of these jewels were made and sold. This one, was bought for an astonishing $12,402,500 in May 2009 at Maranello, Italy.

3. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder

This car belonged to Oscar-winning actor James Coburn, he bought and used it in 1964, but owned it until 1988. In 2008, English radio personality Chris Evans bid nearly $11 million for the car, setting a record for the time.

4. 1931 Duesenberg Model J Murphy-Bodied Coupe

This car was sold for $10,340,000, on August 2011 at Monterey, California.

5. 1931 Bugatti Royale Type 41 Kellner Coupe

Only 6 such cars were made and sold. This car went for $9,800,000 when it was sold in November 1987 at London, England.
